I am currently a Measurement and Evaluation Intern at FIUTS (Foundation for International Understanding Through Students), a venerable 75-year-old nonprofit based in Seattle dedicated to advancing international understanding through cross-cultural experiences, student leadership, and community connections.

My journey with FIUTS began as a student volunteer, and it evolved into a significant role as a representative in the undergraduate UW student government where I actively participated in student government committees focused on diversity, inclusion, and equity. This laid the groundwork for my subsequent election as Co-president of the student board of FIUTS. This pivotal experience during my senior year of college was instrumental in shaping me into a better leader, communicator, and executor.

One of the most cherished aspects of my time at FIUTS has been the people. Interacting with individuals from diverse corners of the globe, each engaged in impressive and impactful initiatives, has been truly inspiring. Consistently contributing to programs like SUSI, PAYLP, and IELP hosted by FIUTS, I've participated in important discussions on culture, world politics, and civic work with students and scholars from around the world. These interactions have significantly contributed to my personal growth, making me a more aware, informed, and empathetic human being and leader. I’m grateful for all I've learned here!!

I had the privilege of serving as a Research Assistant at the Foster School of Business’ Marketing Lab in Seattle, WA, from September 2022 to June 2023. I learnt a lot of valuable technical skills on the job and learnt how to manage large sets of data. My time here not only refined my analytical skills but also deepened my understanding of market dynamics and the intricacies of conducting impactful studies and research. I had amazing conversations with PhD students about the innovative marketing research and studies they were conducting and It definitely expanded the way that I think about businesses, marketing campaigns, decision making and human behavior.

I fostered an appreciation for innovative research methodologies and this exposure reinforced the importance of data-driven decision-making in the business world. As I reflect on my time as a Marketing Lab Research Assistant, I am grateful for the valuable lessons and practical skills gained.

During the academic year from September 2022 to June 2023, I had the enriching experience of serving as an Economics & Political Science Tutor at the UW Student Athlete Academic Department in Seattle, WA. This role allowed me to blend my passion for economics and political science with my love for sharing knowledge and helping others succeed.

Through this experience, I not only honed my own understanding of my subjects but  also built the skill to present my ideas to a diverse group of people clearly. It was more than just transmitting information; it was about creating an interactive learning environment that catered to students' needs.

Even though I tutored Political Science classes to many students, I myself was just a political science minor, so at times I took on the challenge of teaching classes I hadn't taken myself, actively learning and teaching simultaneously. This really built my confidence in adapting and learning quickly. In essence, my time as a tutor was more than an academic support role; it was a journey of mutual growth.

I loved this job because I loved the students I was tutoring and I got to learn so much from their journeys and struggles as well.

The Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) Foundation is a statutory public/private nonprofit created in 1991 by the U.S. states of Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, and Washington and the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan and the territories of the Northwest Territories and the Yukon.

As a Policy Analyst Intern with the Pacific Northwest Economic Region (PNWER) Foundation in Seattle in the summer of 2022, I delved into the intricate world of regional and US-Canada economic policy, focusing on clean tech, energy, and trade. This experience not only deepened my understanding of policy research but also provided invaluable insights into how well-researched and thoughtfully implemented policies can shape communities.

One of the most impactful aspects of my internship was proposing topics for debates and panels at the PNWER annual summit. By interviewing senior stakeholders and analyzing policy trends, I played a role in shaping the dialogue around critical issues.

This internship has been a transformative journey, aligning with my inherent interest in policy. It made me acutely aware of how well-researched policies are distributed and implemented to address real-world challenges. The summit in Calgary, where I interacted with Canadian and U.S. legislators and government officers, showcased the power of collaboration across political ideologies. It became evident that smart solutions to global issues, such as the climate crisis, exist, but overcoming infrastructural, logistical, and political roadblocks is paramount. Reflecting on this experience, I've emerged with a wealth of knowledge, forged relationships, and a deep sense of hope for a better future.

This internship not only enriched my understanding of policy dynamics but also played a pivotal role in building my confidence. Engaging in conversations with influential figures and contributing to discussions on significant decisions bolstered my self-assurance!

I worked as an Economic Empowerment Intern at the IRC, where I worked closely with women refugees in the US from Afghanistan. Working closely with these resilient individuals was a transformative experience that went beyond achieving specific goals. Interacting with women refugees and understanding their challenges deepened my capacity to communicate and empathize with people from diverse backgrounds.

In the process of developing programs, I delved into extensive research on immigration barriers and government-sponsored initiatives, unveiling the hidden challenges faced by women in the workforce and credit system. As I reflect on this journey, I recognize the significance of the work done to cater to different sections of society. It has not only honed my ability to understand the nuanced issues faced by women and refugees but has also deepened my commitment to contributing towards inclusive and sustainable solutions.

My time as a Research and Marketing Intern at Movement Labs was a period of exploration and growth. This experience honed my evaluative, marketing, and data skills.

One of the most gratifying aspects of my internship was the development and implementation of outreach strategies for the advocacy program. Witnessing the success of these strategies, which led to the collaboration of over 300 organizations, was a testament to the power of effective communication and engagement. I learned about how a small company works, what outreach strategies work with whom, how to effectively multitask and do autonomous as well as collaborative work and much more.
